4 Free Cell Phone Trace Options

There it is again, your cell phone ringing in the middle of the night with caller-id showing just a number that you don’t recognize. If you do answer it nobody is there or they tell you they called the wrong number. Or you have a name but you don’t have the number that goes with that name. How do you contact that person if you can’t find their phone number in the Yellow Pages or by using information? Your only option is to do a free cell phone trace.

At least that what many of these sites try to get you to believe. While there are ways to look up cell phone owner names and numbers for free they are less then reliable and do not have a high degree of success. If you want access to a true directory you’ll need to pay a small fee.

But before you pay a fee here are 5 free options that may or may not garner the results you need.

Option 1: This may seem kind of anti-climatic but you could just answer the phone when an unknown name or number appears on your caller-id. It’s not very hi-tech but back before there was caller-id that’s how everyone did it.

Option 2: This won’t work if all you have is a name but for those unknown numbers just dial it up and call them back. If you want to remain anonymous call from a friends house, your work, or some other phone that can’t be tied back to you.

Option 3: Google their name or number. The big internet search engines search out and index every nook and cranny of the internet. What you are hoping for is someone who left their name and cell number on a public website somewhere. This is usually a classifieds ads site or social friends or networking site where many people leave personal information. Probably not the best way to find what you are looking but you might get lucky.

Option 4: Use one of the free cellular directories that have started to show up on the internet. While this may sound like a good way to find the information you are looking for you have to keep a couple of things in mind. In order to use one of these free cell phone number directories you have to provide your own name, number, address, and other personal information. This is how they build their database of cellular information, on a purely volunteer basis.

Option 5: If the first four options don’t work then you need to decide if you want to spend $20-$40 to join a National Cellular Phone Registry site. These sites will provide you access to the hundreds of millions cell phone numbers that currently exist. They also update their databases on a daily basis, making sure that each time you search a name or number you are getting the latest information.

When considering option 5 also be sure that the site you are looking at has a money back guarantee. Also check to make sure that it is a one time fee for the life of the membership. Many of these sites offer a lifetime of cell phone tracing for that one time payment.

So there you have it, 4 free cell phone trace options along with one paid option that will probably give you the best results. The question you have to ask yourself is, is your time and energy better served trying to find the information you are after using the free methods or would you be better off spending a little money and have a complete cell phone directory right at your finger tips?
