Do Your Piece – Public Service With Cell Phones

It’s 12AM and you are shutting down a night on the town. The wind is chilling and there’s snow on the ground from the recent winter dump. Strolling back to your car from the pub you hear an unpleasant sound—it is a car losing traction on the road slowly sliding down the hill where you parked. You groan as you see the car slowly and helplessly careen towards your four wheeled friend, ‘do something!’ you squeal. Luckily the driver manages to let off the break and steer away from its intended target, however, in the process the driver knocked the car parked in front of you, bashing the rear light and fender.

With a sigh of relief you grumble to yourself how things could have been worse but then all of a sudden the car who slid into the parked car is started to drive away! A hit and run on the street, albeit minor, but still, aren’t people supposed to stop in these situations. With a semi-deserted street the driver thinks he can get away with his misdemeanour. What should you do? Stop him cold in his track by running out in the middle of the road? That won’t work since the car will probably end up hitting you! You also don’t know what kind of state the drive is in, are they packing a set of wrenches in the back ready to clobber anybody who steps in their way?

As you contemplate your next step a thought crosses your mind, ‘maybe I’ll intervene but not physically’. How so? Well your new cell phone is equipped with not only a useful and quality cell phone camera, but the latest video technology means you can capture quality real-time video as well. You switch on your phone and hit the video mode. Slowly as the car passes you you’re careful to get a nice shot of the car, the driver’s face, and even the licence plate as it rolls by. Using your cell phone as your weapon you have now become a vigilant citizen doing their part to keep some order and civility in the chaos around you.

Cell phones and wireless handheld devices these days are well equipped recording devices. Be it voice, video, or picture, the power in your palm is more useful than you think. Apart from the usual phone features (what phone is only a phone these days?) most cell phones come equipped with the ability to capture and send media. Record you voice records, videos, or quick shots, and send them across the globe. It is no wonder the greater public is fast becoming involved in maintaining the peace.

In fact, not are cellular devices able to accomplish the various captures, many wireless communication companies and service providers are getting on board too. In an effort to fight crime New York city has enabled a messaging system where regular citizens can email pictures to 911 to help investigations and captures of criminals (especially some misdemeanours). Verizon has also enabled communication to your cell phone with 411 information on whereabouts and locations of your destinations. Even most news agencies for print or TV are now taking your phone camera or videos shots online (albeit a real-time system like the on in NY are not available yet.)

So don’t be shy, stand at a safe distance from whatever event or occurrence and take some evidence to help take crazy drivers, stupid thugs, drunks, and those hit and runs off the street.

The Nokia 6120 Classic – What a package!

Ok, on first glance the Nokia 6120 Classic doesn’t exactly make you go weak at the knees, but look beneath the surface and this is actually quite a remarkable little phone.

For a start it is equipped with the latest HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) which means it can download songs and videos at up to 3.6 Mbps. To put this in perspective, the first Nokia phone to be released with HSDPA was the N95, which is a staggeringly well equipped handset.

It is a 3G phone with a decent 2? display in 16 million colours, has a respectable two megapixel camera on the front, and a second camera on the front for making video calls. It runs on the Symbian S60 operating system which means that you can add your own applications to it.

What is truly impressive about this phone is the sheer amount is packs into a meer 89 grams (lighter than any other Nokia phone we’re selling at the moment), at a very reasonable £160 before tax and subsidy. A phone to bring high speed downloading to the masses!

Mobile Gazette, the marathon phone reviewers have called this Nokia’s best phone ever, and they see a lot of phones!

It should be with us in the next couple of months and you can expect it to be positioned somewhere alongside the current Nokia 6300. It will be available on 02

Sony Ericsson W880i : Unlock the Music Mystery

Sony Ericsson has done a wonderful job by brining the highly impressive walkman phones into the market. Catapulted with a plethora of music features, these walkman phones are exposing real threats to the compact MP3 players, expensive ipods or any other digital music players. While you can experience sensational music output with your mobile handsets, apparently, there is no reason to keep separate devices. These walkman music players are not only meant for music purposes, they are heavily loaded with some other new age features as well.

The all new Sony Ericsson W880i is a stylish walkman music phone with great music playback features. The first thing that catches your eyes is its lean and thin profile-the handset measures 103 x 46.5 x 9.4 mm and weighs just 71 grams-too good to resist! Despite its slim built, the handset doesn’t miss out on any standard features. Walkman 2.0 Music Player is smart enough to deliver crystal clear sound output-even a pin drop sound will make sense to your ears. MegaBass, PlayNow, TrackID, MusicDJ are the perfect tools to make your musical journey even more glorious.

The Sony Ericsson W880i houses a 2 megapixel camera with 2.5 x digital zoom. Take pictures, record quality videos-do whatever you want. As always with Sony Ericsson, connectivity is not an issue-you will get good connectivity tools like 3G, Bluetooth, Fast Port, GPRS, UMTS and USB in the handset. Additional features like push email, sound recorder, Bluetooth stereo (A2DP), 3D games, Java games, speakerphone, flight mode, business card exchange, web browser, RSS Feeds etc. give unique ‘mobile’ experience to you.

The Sony Ericsson W880 is studded with a 262k colour TFT screen with resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Built-in 16MB memory plus Memory Stick Micro support is a good enough reason to attract you. Isn’t that? Don’t forget, the handset offers up to 6.5 hours of talktime and up to 400 hours of standby time.
